Kronborg Keep, part one

Okay, technically, I am actually planning on telling you about the fortifications and bastions of Kronborg Castle, but those don't fit with the alliteration, so, despite the fact that the "keep" is really just the tower part of the castle, that is the name I am going with.  Kronborg was a trace italienne or star shaped fort.  It was so well built (or perhaps just so uninteresting by the time that it was finished) that it was never attacked.
The castle grounds were set up really well.  There were informational plaques all over the place with interesting information about how they built the fort, how it was defended, about its armaments, about Danish garrison gardening practices, etc.  If you are uninterested in this, you can feel free to skip all of the pictures of the plaques which are below.  But, there is also good stuff below them, so you should scroll through.  If you are interested in this stuff, if you click on the picture it should get larger so that it is easier to read.

They had big cannon all over the place.

A lot of these plaques had speakers under them that would go off, periodically, with sounds from the parade ring or sounds of cannon firing.  I got this video of Jael (kind-of) marching in time with the Danish soldiers but I couldn't get any of the cannon fire tapes--I would always just miss them going off when I tried.

The whole complex was set up to be really child friendly.  They had a massive scale model of the castle complex and when we got there, there was a family of little kids running around on it, having a great time.
It inspired Jael.
